About CBD

FACTS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT CBD

CBD or CANNABIDIOL

is a compound found in the cannabis plant.
Cannabis stigma is on it’s way to being over because of the extraordinary characteristics of the CBD.
General public is getting educated about Cannabis and how CBD is a compound from the Cannabis Plant
that does not get you “high”.

CBD oil is finding its way into a variety of products, from oil, tinctures and
drops to CBD-infused edibles and CBD balms, as well as a wide range of cosmetics.

CBD oil is even becoming popular among pet owners
who wish to help their pets live more quality lives.

CBD is made by
extracting oil
from Hemp flowers.

Cbd is made by extracting oil
from Hemp flowers.

What is CBD?

CBD oil is a natural essential oil which is extracted from the flowers of the cannabis plant.
It has been proven by Scientists that it has a vast range of properties.

CBD oil contains a variety of active compounds such as:

  • Cannabinoids
  • Chlorophyll
  • Alkanes
  • Nitrogenous compounds
  • Amino acids
  • Sugars
  • Aldehydes
  • Alcoholsetones
  • Flavonoids
  • Glycosides
  • Vitamins
  • Pigments

It has been shown in research studies to be well-tolerated and non-toxic to humans.
CBD is extracted from low THC cannabis plants referred to as Hemp.

The Differences between HEMP and MARIJUANA

While hemp and marijauna are both part of cannabis species, each has unique properties that distinguish its use.

CANNABIS

HEMP

MARIJUANA

High in CBD

High in THC

Less than 0.3% THC

More than 0.3 THC (5-35%)

Non-Psychoactive
(no “high” feeling)

Psychoative
(produces a “high” feeling)

Legal in most countries

Illegal in most countries

Tall, long, sturdy stalks
with skinny leaves

Short and bushy, broad leaves
with thick, fragrant flowers

It’s really very simple:

  • Both Hemp and Marijuana come from the same plant species – Cannabis Sativa.
  • However each has unique properties that distinguish its use.
  • Hemp is a Cannabis plant with THC levels below 0.3%
and is 100% legal in the US and in most countries around the world.
  • Marijuana is a Cannabis plants with THC levels above 0.3%.
    Usually around 5-35%.

Is CBD Legal?

Over the past few decades, there has been an explosion of research into the benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids.
A monumental breakthrough happened on December 20, 2018 when a new Farm Bill was signed and federally passed by president Trump that makes Hemp plant 100% legal.
To be totally clear:
Hemp (it is no longer called “industrial hemp”) and all of its constituent components (ie, cannabinoids, including CBD) are broadly lawful throughout the USA.

More specifically, the 2018 Farm Act defines “hemp” as:
“The plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

Full Spectrum CBD vs CBD Isolate

If you’ve done just a little bit of research you know there’s basically 2 kinds of CBD products.

Products made with
Full Spectrum CBD

Products made with
CBD Isolate

Products made with
Full Spectrum CBD

It’s also called Full Spectrum CBD Extract or Whole-plant CBD extract or FECO that stands for Full Extract Cannabis Oil.

It includes all of the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and also includes all the other components that get extracted out of cannabis flowers in the process.
These other components are terpenes, waxes, healthy fatty acids and chlorophyll.
And you know what,… there are other components in the cannabis plant that get extracted in the process that we are not even aware of. But that’s a story for another time.

So when we say “full-spectrum”, we’re referring to a naturally extracted spectrum rather than a constructed spectrum.

Products made with
CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is just CBD. It’s just cannabidiol molecule isolated or separated from other cannabis compounds in the plant.

So the big question... What to choose?

Full Spectrum CBD or CBD Isolate?

There are studies that give scientific proof that Full Spectrum CBD that also includes low amounts of THC plus other cannabinoids, terpenes ect. produce what is known as an Entourage Effect.

The synergistic relationship between all of the cannabis components has been shown to increase the healing properties of each.

But when it comes to CBD isolate,… even though it’s fairly unlikely that you would fail a drug test or experience a form of “high” because of the low amounts of the THC in those Full Spectrum CBD products,… some people prefer to be on the safe side.

So now you have the information you need to decide… CBD Isolate vs Full Spectrum CBD.

Our suggestion is always Full Spectrum CBD.

Why?

Well, when it comes to health we don’t think we should hold back.
This is a natural medicine and it just doesn’t make any sense not to get the full benefit out of it.

Will THC in Full Spectrum CBD oil make me “High”?

Short answer: No.

If you take it slow and go with the recommended dosing!

Long answer: No.

If you’ve read this far, you know we are strong advocates of the Full Spectrum CBD oil and products.
Numerous studies as well as direct experience with our customers show significant difference of the Full Spectrum CBD compared to the CBD isolate.
However, the Full Spectrum CBD oil does contain the infamous THC. And therefore it’s possible that you’d actually feel the “high” if you take a dose that’s much higher than recommended.
But the good news is that even if that would happen to you or your loved ones, no one ever overdosed with cannabis. There’s not a single history record of anyone overdosing, ever.

The Allowed THC content in CBD

Furthermore, the allowed THC content in the US is below 0.3%.

The allowed THC content in the European Union is below 0.2%.

Most of the Full Spectrum CBD products therefore contain less than 0.2% THC.

And the next point is ...

MICRODOSING

We recommend to all of our readers and customers to microdose.
That simply means instead of taking one big dose once a day, you take small amounts 3-5 times throughout the day.

This will make the amount far to small for you to feel anything that you don’t want to.

And it will also make CBD present in your body at approximately equal level at all times. And that’s really optimal for your body’s Endocannabinoid System and the recovery you are looking for.

CBD Oil Side Effects

There’s a few things to be addressed first!

  • It’s important you get your CBD from a reputable company. Preferably a company that is transparent about who is behind it, behind the brand, behind the website.

  • There are a ton of websites that look really good, but once you start exploring you can not find the real people behind it.

  • If you are making Cannabis extract yourself, it’s important you use ingredients that are safe and made (purified) for human consumption. Do not try to save money buying the cheapest ethanol and other ingredients.

Side effects of CBD oil that you might experience will probably be only minor if any at all.

The potential side effects of Hemp CBD oil may be:

  • Dry mouth
  • A small drop in blood pressure
  • Lightheadedness
  • Increased appetite
  • Drowsiness

Remember, CBD affects everyone differently. What might happen to one person might not happen to you.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, don’t panic! Simply lower your CDB dosage.
It’s important you start with a low dose and gradually build up.

How Does CBD Make You Feel?

The feel of CBD will not be anything like the “high” of THC. CBD is completely non-psychoactive.

Our customers report that CBD makes them feel more calm and relaxed.
Many even say that it helps even help you deal with daily life issues.

What Does CBD Do?

  • CBD works directly with the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
  • Discovered in 1992 by Raphael Mechoulam as well as NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) researchers William Devane and Dr. Lumir Hanus.
  • The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex network of special receptors
and cannabis-like chemicals called cannabinoids that collaborate to bring balance to our body and our mind.
  • CBD helps to boost the endocannabinoid system if it has become depleted.

Is CBD Safe?

The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)  conducted a review on the ‘Safety and side effects of cannabidiol’. Their verdict was that controlled administration is completely non-toxic and safe in both humans and animals with minimal side effects.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also recognised CBD as being non-toxic and safe.

Hemp CBD Oil vs Hemp Seed Oil

What's the difference?

HEMP SEED OIL
is cold pressed from
HEMP SEEDS

CBD RICH EXTRACT
is made from
CANNABIS FLOWER

A lot of times CBD oil is referred to as Hemp oil.
And here is where you need to be careful!

When buying any CBD product (that goes for products containing Full Spectrum CBD or CBD isolate) and the label (or the seller) says it’s “Hemp Oil” you have to ask if it contains CBD or not!

Why?
Because when Hemp seeds are cold pressed into oil, that is also called Hemp oil. But that oil does not contain any CBD.

In this short video we explain exactly what you need to be aware of and careful with.

What Is CBD Exactly?

CBD is short for cannabidiol.
It is just one of more than 100 different molecules called cannabinoids
that are found in the cannabis plant.
They account for most of the health benefits of cannabis.

Cannabinoids found in plants are also called PHYTO-Cannabinoids.

Phytocannabinoids mimic compounds which we call ENDO-Cannabinoids that are produced naturally by all mammals.

Yes, our bodies make their own Cannabinoids.

ENDO or Endogenous means produced or synthesized within the organism.

Endo

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids produced by the human body.
Simply means cannabinoids that body makes as needed.

Phyto

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids produced by plants.

Synthetic

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids artificially created in a lab.

Considering the superiority of “Nature’s Pharmacy” and “chemical design” and also considering these natural cannabinoids are super easy to get we strongly advise against synthetic cannabinoids.
There are also scientific results showing how Cannabinoids from cannabis are not only far superior compared to synthetic cannabinoids but how synthetic cannabinoids are even dangerous.

Use of synthetic cannabinoids has been associated with serious psychiatric and medical conditions and even death.

If you have a choice between a product that was perfected by nature and fits the system you have in your body perfectly and something created by a chemist – you know what you want to go with, right?

EndoCannabinoids and Their Function

Endocannabinoids, those produced naturally by our bodies, are signaling molecules.
They are also called neurotransmitters.
A more familiar type of neurotransmitter are Hormones.

A vast array of neurotransmitters are produced by our nervous system in response to various states of health and environmental factors.
They interact with receptors found in cells throughout our bodies.
Their job is to instruct a cell to adjust its activities.

The Super Heroes In Your Body

Yes, we know this is scientific mambo jumbo, but it’s kinda important…

ENDOCANNABINOIDS

Anandamide

(N-arachidonoylethanolamide, AEA)

Mostly located in brain and peripheral nervous system.
Also called “the Body’s Own Antidepressant”.

2-AG

(2-arachidonoylglycerol)

Mostly located in brain, peripheral nervous system and immune system.

The Human Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

Endocannabinoid system is a central regulatory system we have in our bodies.
Is a system that is designed to keep YOU (yes, the whole you – your body and your mind) in HOMEOSTASIS.
That simply mean “in BALANCE”.

We now understand that neurotransmitters work to adjust our cellular activity.
Let’s take a look at the role of cannabinoids in particular and their role in maintaining a state of balance, within the body.

The human endocannabinoid system (ECS) has two components:

  • The EndoCannabinoid Receptors (known as CB1 and CB2 receptors) found on the surface of cells throughout the body.
  • Second is the EndoCannabinoids themselves that interact with those receptors.

ESC has two components

The reason CBD seems to affect such a wide range of conditions
is that the endocannabinoid system regulates a wide array of bodily functions:

APPETITE

SLEEP

MOOD

METABOLISM

IMMUNE RESPONSE

LIFESPAN OF CELLS

and much more...

5 of the Most Common Cannabinoids Found in Cannabis

and some of the effects they possess:

THC

Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol

The primary psychotropic compound in marijuana that gives users a feeling of euphoria.

CBD

Cannabidiol

The second most common cannabinoid produced by the cannabis plant that is non-psychotropic (it doesn’t get you high).

CBG

Cannabigerol

Non-psychoactive and used as an antibiotic, antidepressant and pain reliever.

CBN

Cannabinol

Believed to act as an appetite stimulant, antibiotic, anti-asthmatic, pain reliever and sedative.

THCa & CBDa

Compounds found in raw cannabis that are non-psychotropic and used for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.).

Additional Function of Cannabinoids

Although cannabinoids are mainly known for the role they play in the human endocannabinoid system, they also function in other ways.

For example, cannabinoids are known to have antioxidant effects. Vitamin C is an example of a common antioxidant.

The process of metabolizing food can produce harmful molecules we refer to as free radicals. These molecules can latch onto molecules in our cells, causing oxidation, the same process that causes metals to rust. Free radicals can harm or kill a cell and damage DNA. Antioxidant molecules such as cannabinoids can latch onto free radicals, rendering them harmless.

What are Terpens?

Terpenes are found in the cannabis plant as well as most other plants.

Terpenes evaporate at room temperature, and our noses are highly sensitive to them.
Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the FDA (Food and Drug Association) and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.
Although Terpene molecules are all very similar, each has its own unique scent and flavor.

Terpenes can also have powerful effects on our bodies. In fact, terpenes have been used for thousands of years in a healing form known as aromatherapy.

Most common terpenes along with their common reported benefits:

Just a few Terpenes are listen here. There are many more.

Some terpenes can also act as neurotransmitters.

They can act as serotonin uptake inhibitors, enhance norepinephrine and dopamine activity, all of which are known to produce antidepressant effects.

More importantly, terpenes also act on cannabinoid receptors and are known to modify the effects of cannabinoids.

The Entourage Effect

When all of the components within the cannabis plant interact with the human body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone
is known as the Entourage Effect.

It’s a synergistic effect that works significantly better than isolated CBD.

This simply means that all of the components extracted from the cannabis plant together help our body better than any of those components alone (or isolated).

We could say that nature knows best 😉
That’s why all of our products contain a Full Spectrum CBD.

What is the best way to take

CBD OIL?

CBD can be taken in quite a few ways:

  • CBD can be inhaled
  • CBD can be taken orally
  • CBD can be taken as suppositories
  • CBD can be use in the form of skin application

Let's break it down...

Let's break it down...

Inhaling CBD

Inhaling CBD allows you to feel the effect immediately since it’s absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the lungs.

  • CBD in the “herb” form can be rolled up and smoked, as a joint cigarette or with a use of a pipe or a water pipe.
  • A less harmful way of inhaling CBD into your lounges would be to use a dry herb vaporizer.
  • Another option is to use e-cigarette and smoke (or vape really) CBD oil in the form of e-liquid.
  • CBD isolate or CBD wax can be used with a Dab Pipe or a Dab Rig. This is known as dabbing.

CBD inhalation methods compared

While smoking and health benefits don’t really go together we’d like to emphasize one thing here.
Development of modern technology and new products brought to the market something phenomenal.
A dry herb vaporizer.

I think this is truly spectacular since a dry herb vaporizer is made to evaporate those active ingredients from the plant without the combustion that happens if you “burn it” in the form of joint or cigarette.

This form of “smoking” known as VAPING is the least harmful for your lounges.
Furthermore, the absence of combustion preserves all the good stuff that really gets destroyed while burning (smoking).

Now compared to using e-liquids or dabbing, vaping dry herbs also keeps the herbs in the purest form. No extraction processing was done.

This is not to say that other forms of CBD created for inhalation do not have their own advantages. While dry cannabis herb keeps CBD levels in their natural concentration, for some users that might not be enough so other more concentrated options (CBD wax or CBD e-liquid) might be more appropriate.

Taking CBD Orally

With taking CBD oil through your mouth you have 2 options:

  • putting CBD oil under the tongue
  • ingesting CBD oil.

Putting CBD oil under the tongue

This method is also known as sublingual.

It’s better than simply swallowing because CBD is allowed to enter the bloodstream far more quickly via the capillaries under your tongue.

However we have to be realistic here – only a small fraction of the CBD oil that you put under your tongue will be absorbed there.

The majority of that CBD will be swallowed and will go through the digestive system.

Ingesting CBD oil

Swallowing CBD in the form of CBD tinctures and oil, CBD capsules, soft gels and CBD edibles is a very convenient option.

It’s also very precise because you know exactly how many milligrams of CBD you are taking.

CBD capsules, soft gels and CBD edibles are also perfect if you don’t like the hemp taste of CBD oil.

When CBD is ingested, it passes through the digestive system first and is metabolised by the liver. The active compounds are sent to your bloodstream and circulated to the rest of the body.

The whole process can take around two hours but effects last longer.

Taking CBD oil in the form of suppositories

CBD suppositories are one of the best ways to use CBD with the best bioavailability.

Why?

Because CBD is absorbed straight into the bloodstream via capillaries in the anal or vaginal passage avoiding the digestive system entirely.

They’re also the perfect answer for anyone with stomach problems that has trouble keeping CBD down.

The effects of CBD suppositories are often noticed within 10–15 minutes after application and can last around 4-8 hours.

Applying CBD oil on your skin:

Since you also have endocannabinoid receptors as part of your skin cells it means that CBD can go straight to the source, easing any joint or muscle pains and calming irritated or inflamed skin.

CBD-infused topicals include:

  • skin creams
  • balms
  • salves
  • oils

These products can be infused with CBD isolate, or with a full spectrum CBD oil.

The products with the full spectrum oils will contain other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes for triggering the Entourage effect.

Topicals often have a variety of additional beneficial ingredients that contribute to the overall therapeutic effects.

For example:

  • Skin creams may contain moisturizers, vitamin E, collagen and so on
  • Pain creams may contain ingredients that help the product penetrate deeper into tissues and aid in pain relief
  • Salves may contain other soothing and healing ingredients such as aloe
Topical products can also be very simple as well.

In fact, CBD Oil with no other ingredients can be used directly on the skin.

CBD-rich oils are great for moisturizing. They provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to protect skin from damage.

Full Spectrum CBD oils also contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which are produced naturally along with the oil.

BIOAVAILABILITY of CBD

How Cannabis Enters the Body

The bioavailability of any active compound is the percentage of a given serving that ends up in the bloodstream and
is thus available for your body to use.

The more “bioavailable” the dose or serving is the lower the quantity needed to experience the same effect.

100 percent bioavailability means that 100 percent of the CBD in the product is available to your body.
The only way to achieve 100 percent bioavailability is via I.V. or IntraVenous administration. That is injection directly into the bloodstream.

Every other method of consumption will result in some percentage of the CBD becoming unavailable to the body for reasons, such as incomplete absorption and first-pass metabolism before it has a chance to enter the bloodstream.

Each CBD oil consumption method has a particular range of bioavailability.

Bioavailability of CBD Oils and Tinctures

CBD tincture is a liquid oil based (or it can be alcohol based, but usually not with CBD) which has been infused with CBD extract.

Tinctures are taken sublingually, meaning under the tongue. When delivered via this method, a small portion of that CBD is absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the veins and capillaries in the tissues in your mouth. The rest is swallowed and goes through the digestive system into the bloodstream.

It is generally assumed that the bioavailability of CBD in tinctures is twice that of edibles. It can be anywhere from 10 percent to 40 percent.

Bioavailability of CBD oil taken as suppositories

CBD Suppositories are normally administered rectally, but can also be vaginal.

Now even though this application method is by far the least popular of all we’ve cover here it’s proven to be highly bioavailable and thus a highly effective means of using CBD

Using a CBD suppository has the best of both worlds when it comes to onset and length of effects. You get noticeable effects after less than 15 minutes and the effects can last for about 8 hours.

Bioavailability of CBD oil via skin application - Topical CBD

These products are salves, balms, roller balls, lotions, creams, etc.

These topicals are applied to the skin and they mostly work on the skin. Generally they work on the top 3 layers of the skin, and it’s surrounding area, and that’s it.

CBD oil applied to your skin is not going to penetrate THROUGH the skin, nor does any of the CBD get into the bloodstream.

You can simply take the CBD oil you are taking sublingually and apply it to your skin. It has the potential to do wonders for your skin, because you also have endocannabinoid receptors on your skin cells. But it’s not going into your bloodstream much.

With Topical CBD oil application we always recommend taking it orally as well. This way your body will get all the phytocannabinoid help you can give it.

Bioavailability of Inhaled CBD

Inhaled CBD delivery method (beside application via suppositories) has the highest bioavailability.

CBD can be vaped or smoked. The vapor or smoke is absorbed by the lungs in the same way that oxygen is. The effects of inhalation are almost immediate because CBD, like oxygen, directly enters the bloodstream through the capillary-rich tissues in the lungs.

The bioavailability of inhaled CBD depends on:

  • are you inhaling smoke or vape
  • the quality of the ingredients
  • how much is inhaled in each puff
  • how deep it is drawn into the lungs
  • how quickly it is exhaled.

The bioavailability of inhaled CBD can therefore be estimated to range between 25 percent and 80 percent.

The difference between 25% and 80% goes mostly to the distinction between smoking and vaping.

Smoking a roll-up has a few bad sides compared to vaping.

Since it is basically burning the ingredients a lot of it gets burned and destroyed in the process. The other thing is that inhaling smoke is much more harmful than inhaling vapour.

A vaporizer achieves the decarboxylation required to activate the cannabinoids by heating them just enough to be inhaled but not burning them. In contrast, it’s combustion that ignites a joint so you can inhale the smoke.

A 2016 study called “Medicinal Cannabis: In Vitro Validation of Vaporizers for the Smoke-Free Inhalation of Cannabis” proved the superiority of vaporizers.

Vaporizers can dramatically increase the bioavailability of cannabis. This research focussed on both THC and CBD, and found that using a vaporizer is the best way to get high from THC and to dose with CBD-rich cannabis too.

How Long Does CBD Take to Take Effect?

There are several determining factors when it comes
to the onset time of various methods of administration of CBD:

cbd-effect-curedbynature.png

These figures are general guidelines and will vary from person to person.

How Long will CBD Effect Last?

This again depends on the same factors as with time CBD needs to “kick in” (abowe).

Generally inhaling CBD will last up to about 3 hours but you will feel the effect almost instantly.

CBD tinctures and oils as well as Topical CBD will last about 4-6 hours. With topical CBD it also depends on the size of the skin region it’s applied to.

If you like getting a massage once in a while, (for general wellness) we highly recommend you put some of your CBD oil into that massage oil. This way CBD will get applied to the biggest human organ – skin – top to bottom.

Now CBD suppositories are very interesting. They are the least popular CBD application method but probably have the fastest and the longest effect and its bioavailability is incomparably better.
